Rural Lives
Siddis live on remote and isolated rural plots of rented farmland or encroached forest in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, and Karnataka. Still considered "outsiders" by most Indians, mainly due to their African features and dark skin, they do not either seek out interaction. On the other hand, their seclusion may be the chief reason why they have been able to survive as a distinct culture within India for so many centuries.
