Home Kawandi
When asked to display their home quilts, many at first refused and said they were embarassed to show something they felt was inferior to the ones being produced by the cooperative. On the contrary, I found them to be appealing in their unpredictability and vibrancy, items from which one could trace the history of a family through fabric since home kawandi are always made from fragments of their clothes. The quilts made for use at home are usually very large because there is only one or two per household and these have to cover all the members of the family who sleep in the same room or bed.
